Hi, my name is Ghieanaliyah Ayuyu, and I am a sophomore at Dickinson High School. I am also a publicist of the Dickinson Youth Commission, which is a leadership skill-based youth group who is a “voice” for all of Dickinson’s youth. As a publicist of this commission, I am designated to be the technical lead and social media informant of our community events.
The experience I have had within my past year as a Dickinson Youth Commissioner has been eye-opening, I have developed fundamental leadership skills to showcase in many different environments, created new relationships amongst my commission group, which varies within Dickinson High School students and Trinity High School students.
Our mission as a group is to create a healthy and fun environment for the youth in Dickinson, to involve the youth into more community events and to create that environment where people want to be in.
As for my role as the publicist of the commission, I have been honored to serve my purpose by taking images for the group and being involved in new opportunities. The newest opportunity I have has been aiding with the design of the East Broadway Dam close to the big stick baseball fields, the project has been a moreover learning experience for me.
In the days I have worked on this project, there were many times where I had many new perspectives on the importance of the dam, adapting to new problems within designing this website, and the opening of a new creative mindset for me.
My role for this project though, is to design the homepage for this site, involve spaces to speak about the history of it, lay out the images through each page, and give it overall a cleaner look. This role also is such an important part of my task with the DYC because of how young I am. The part I have also enjoyed the most is how challenging it has been for me.
I loved adapting to the challenges of designing this project and also how much information I have learned from it. The broadway dam rebuild is going to be such an amazing feature for our community and I am extremely excited to share the website for the future generations to come.
