Millie has loved spending the past two years at Dickinson High School, supporting students and staff in meaningful ways each day. From cheerful hallway greetings to quiet moments when someone needed a little extra comfort, being part of the DHS community has meant so much to her.

During her time at DHS, Millie had the opportunity to connect with so many incredible students. Whether it was a quick hello in the hallway, a gentle moment of support, or simply offering a calming presence on a tough day, those interactions made a lasting impact. Each small moment helped create a more supportive and caring school environment.

Millie and I were also recently awarded a grant from the Dickinson Public School Foundation. This grant helped cover important expenses such as bandanas, grooming throughout the school year, continuing education, and certification classes needed to maintain their therapy dog team status, along with other related needs. As part of the grant, they are sharing the impact Millie has had on the school community. To help capture that impact, an optional survey was shared with both staff and students to gather feedback on their experiences with Millie during her time at DHS. Participation was voluntary, and responses reflected the many meaningful connections she has made.

One student shared, “I have appreciated having Millie in our building the last few years. Not only for myself, but I have personally seen the impact a dog can have on individual students. There have been many mornings and afternoons when a student will come by and love up Millie, and they walk away with a better attitude or feeling more relaxed about the day. She is voiceless, but her body language always tells you she cares and is there for you. All we need sometimes is a happy tail wag to brighten a day!”

Next school year, Millie will begin an exciting new chapter within the district as she transitions to Berg Elementary and the Early Childhood Program. In her continued role as a therapy dog, she will help younger students learn about kindness, develop calming strategies, and feel safe and supported at school.

While Millie will miss seeing everyone at DHS each day, she is looking forward to this next adventure and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of a new group of students. Her presence will continue to bring comfort, connection, and joy wherever she goes.
