This past holiday season, our Dickinson Middle School, Dickinson High School and the SWCTE came together to extend kindness far beyond our classrooms. After the recent hurricane impacted Jamaica, we wanted to support someone close to our school family, friend and substitute teacher, Denisford Kerr, as he returned home to assist with cleanup and rebuilding efforts.

Thanks to the generosity of staff, we raised over $1,000 to support recovery efforts. Before Denisford left for Jamaica, we were able to send him off with these funds to use where the need was greatest.

While in Jamaica, Denisford used the donations to directly support individuals affected by the storm. He provided cash assistance to a woman who lost her roof, helped a man whose entire home was destroyed, and purchased a solar lamp that also charges phones for a man who lost electricity, as well as fixing Mr. Kerr’s own roof. These simple but vital supports helped meet immediate needs and brought hope during a difficult time.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make this effort possible. Your generosity reached across borders and made a real, tangible difference.
