The Dickinson Public Schools Elementary Art Department is proud to partner with the Southwest Art Gallery and Science Center and JP Frame Shop to showcase artwork created by students from across the district. The collaboration began in October, with Heart River Elementary selected as the first featured school. Their exhibit will be on display through November 15, 2025.

Heart River students were encouraged to incorporate their school mascot, an otter, into their work, whether as the main subject or hidden within their artwork. More than 70 art pieces representing a range of styles and ideas from second through fifth graders now fill the gallery walls.

JP Frame Shop sponsored the matting and hanging materials, allowing the artwork to be displayed at no cost to students. The Southwest Art Gallery and Science Center hosted the event in the Schwartz Children’s Gallery, sponsored by Kristi and Randy Schwartz. Their support helped eliminate entry fees and material costs, giving more students the opportunity to participate and share their work.

An opening reception was held on October 8, 2025, from 3:30–6:00 p.m., where students and families gathered to celebrate the exhibit. Students enjoyed cookies and juice, as well as showing off their art and viewing other classmates work in the gallery.  With the end of the Heart River show in November, we hope to showcase Jefferson Elementary and other DPS schools to follow.
