This November 3–7, schools across the country will celebrate National School Psychology Week (NSPW), sponsored by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The 2025 theme, “Finding Your Path,” highlights the vital role school psychologists play in helping students discover their strengths, set goals, and navigate challenges by supporting their social, emotional, and academic growth.

School psychologists are trained professionals who work with students, teachers, and families to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We help students overcome challenges, build resilience, and develop the skills needed to thrive in school and beyond.

We provide counseling, complete assessments, assist with behavior plans and academic interventions, promote positive school climates, and help students problem-solve when things feel overwhelming. We also collaborate with teachers, families, and administrators to create safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments where every student can succeed. Helping staff “find their path” by offering insight on how to motivate students, improve classroom behavior, and support mental health is also a critical role we play.  Much of our work takes place behind the scenes, quietly supporting all areas of the school community.

This year’s theme, “Finding Your Path,” reminds students that everyone’s journey is unique. Sometimes that path includes setbacks, detours, or tough decisions—but with support, perseverance, and self-reflection, each student can move forward toward success. We help students recognize their potential and identify strategies that guide them toward their goals.

But what do students think about our role? We asked a few students to share their thoughts that highlight the positive impact we can have on students’ lives:

"You teach people about kindness and honesty."

"You help me get my body calm and show me how to teach my brain to relax."

“You keep me calm & safe”

This November, remember that by working together, we can create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that helps all students find their path to success. No matter where you are in your journey, it’s never too late to start finding your path.
