At Dickinson Public Schools, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to come to school ready to learn. For many families, meeting basic needs can be a daily challenge. That’s why our district is proud to reintroduce the Dickinson Public Schools Pantry and Closet, a resource created to provide food, clothing, and essential items for students and their families.

What is the Pantry and Closet?
The Pantry and Closet is a school-based resource that offers:

  • Food Pantry: Shelf-stable groceries, healthy snacks, and fresh items (when available) to help families facing food insecurity.
  • Clothing Closet: Everyday clothing, coats, shoes, and seasonal gear for students of all ages.
  • Household & Hygiene Essentials: Items such as toiletries, laundry and detergent, school supplies, and other necessities.

This support system is designed to reduce barriers for students so they can focus on learning, friendships, and growth.

Why it Matters?
The need within our schools has grown in recent years. Rising costs of living and other challenges mean that some students arrive at school hungry, without proper clothing, or missing basic supplies. When these needs are met, students gain confidence, attendance improves, and families feel more connected to the school community.

The Pantry and Closet is not just about meeting immediate needs- it’s about creating a supportive environment where all students feel valued and prepared to succeed.

How Families Can Access Resources
The Pantry and Closet is available to any student or family in our district who needs support. Families can connect through:

  • Direct contact with the Pantry and Closet. We are located at the Hagen building at 402 4th St. W., Door 3. Open every Thursday from 12 pm to 2 pm.
  • Referrals from teachers, social workers, counselors, or staff
  • Confidential requests made by parents or guardians

How the Community Can Help
This resource thrives through the generosity of our community. Ways you can support include:

  • Donating: Food, clothing (Clean, new or gently used), and household essentials.
  • Hosting a Drive: Organize a food or hygiene product drive at your workplace, church, or neighborhood.
  • Volunteering: Help stock shelves, organize clothing, or assist during distribution events.
  • Monetary Contributions: Financial donations allow us to purchase high-need items and fresh foods.
  • Together, we can ensure that no student goes without the basic necessities.

Moving Forward
The reintroduction of the Pantry and Closet is an invitation to come together as a district and community. By supporting one another, we ensure that students walk into school each day prepared to learn, thrive, and succeed.
