Goldilocks on Trial

Students performing on stage "Goldilocks on Trial"

Following the success of their fall show “Beauty and the Beast,” the Dickinson High School drama department presented “Goldilocks On Trial,” a whimsical play by Ed Monk, produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (www.playscripts.com) in early April.  “Goldilocks On Trial” centers around the infamous Goldilocks, who finds herself on trial for breaking and entering after her unexpected visit to the Three Bears’ home.

The courtroom drama unfolds under the watchful eye of Judge Wallabee, played by senior Jackson Halvorson, assisted by Melvin the Bailiff , played by Hailey Proctor - who must navigate the antics of a hilariously dysfunctional jury. The trial features testimony from some unforgettable characters, including Goldee - played by last year's state drama superior actor award winner Kaitlynn Beenblossom, the bickering Three Bears—Mama Bear, portrayed by senior, Annabelle Dolecek, Papa Bear, played by senior, Victor Pavlish and Baby Bear(Tiffannii), played by Leo Beenblossom/DeLayla Thom—and a few surprise witnesses, who add an unexpected twist to the proceedings.

The cast also featured senior Ethan Mauri as Detective Clorox, and many other familiar faces you may remembr from previous DHS productions such as “Tracks” , "Cheating Death" and “When Bad Things Happen to Good Actors.”  Actors not already listed included Dylan Seidel - District Attorney Muffinhead, Kayden Smith - Attorney Wombat, Stella Treat - the Little Pig Who Was Not Eaten By the Wolf, Caroline Utt - Dr. Cantaloupe, Brooke Binek - Merwin the Big Bad Wolf, Esther Dustin, Josh Martin, Kaidence Bear, Connor Madden - jurors, as well as our tech crew - Annabelle Raybould, Abigail Dupre, and Bailey Harrington.

This one-act play performance served as a springboard for the students, who took the production to the state play competition in Devils Lake on April 7-8.  "The competiton went very well and was a fantatic learning experience" according to DHS Drama Director Karen Wagner.  Senior Jackson Halverson and freshman Leo Beenblossom were recognized with superior actor awards.

Mark your calendars for our next and final 24-25 school year performance - an afternoon of one acts - on May 11 at 3:30 pm.  These senior student directed one acts are presented through a joint effort with Dickinson State University, and will be held at the DSU Dorothy Stickney Auditorium.
