The Hour of Code Event is a nationwide annual event typically celebrated over the winter. The DHS Science club has been conducting Hour of Code outreach events at the DPS elementary schools for the past 5 years. The program has grown to encompass 2 weeks of outreach events in the local elementary schools.

This year, the DPS Hour of Code took us to 5 DPS elementary schools. We had the opportunity to work with all grade levels, K-5. Our activities range from designing basic video games to animating a child's name to moving an avatar across a screen or changing costumes. It's an excellent opportunity for DPS elementary alumni to return to their alma maters and inspire other students to try new things.

Thanks to the DHS Science Club students, Prairie Rose Elementary 2nd and 3rd graders were introduced to coding using the Scratch app on their devices. The DHS students taught the Panthers how to create digital stories/animations that promoted computational thinking and problem-solving skills, creative teaching and learning, and self-expression. We love seeing all of our students engage and learn from each other. A big thank you to the DHS Science Club students for doing a great job engaging our PRE Panther students!
