Here at Jefferson, our staff, parents, and students know the importance of reading.  We know that reading to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world.  It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written words they encounter as they learn to read themselves.  We also know that reading to a child or listening to a child read is a wonderful way to create a unique and special bond together.  As a community of readers, we have worked to create opportunities for students to expand their at home reading libraries as they continually learn to read and write at Jefferson.  We know that having this opportunity will create better community leaders.  Therefore, last year, during our Read-A-Thon, we were able to purchase a Book Vending Machine to use as a reward for students who show above and beyond “Tommie” behavior!

We pondered a way to purchase books for the machine until the Book Blast Fundraiser was brought to our attention.  Boy are we glad we looked into it!

We are so proud of our Jefferson staff and students for yet another successful fundraiser! Jefferson friends and families went above and beyond and brought $41,526 in donations. This is unbelievable! What does this mean for our students and our school?

  • EVERY student in our school received the full 10 Book Bundle!
  • That's about 3,800 books we earned!
  • Jefferson received a full set of each grade level book bundle to use in our Book Vending Machine.
  • Jefferson will have a $3400 shopping spree to spend on books for our Book Vending Machine and other items from the Books Are Fun website.

Congratulations to all of our WINNERS!! This has been a super FUN fundraising event for Jefferson!

Also, several of our teachers won a $100 shopping spree with Books Are Fun. Two of our teachers, Mrs. Heth and Mrs. Roller, each received a $200 shopping spree for getting 100% participation in their classrooms. Way to go!

One student from each grade level also received a $100 shopping spree to spend with Books Are Fun for raising the most money in their grade level. Nice work kids! Our Book Vending Machine will be used to reward students with good behavior with a book!

Ryan Woehl - Raised the most money in all of Jefferson. He received a $200 shopping spree with Books Are Fun! Congrats Ryan!
