The DHS Art Club has been hard at work this winter season. Our adventure started with a proposition from the DHS School Resource Officer, Officer Peters, to jazz up his office with an uplifting mural. Each member took turns during Art Club to paint a positive representation of law enforcement. It was an excellent opportunity to improve our communication and collaboration skills!
After the mural was complete, we were offered yet another opportunity by the Dickinson Police Department. We were asked to revamp an old concrete statue of a police officer. The Art Club excitedly accepted the challenge and faced it with determination. We spent six weeks giving the statue a new, fresh look. The transformation was an amazing process for each student to take pride in contributing to the community.
This spring, we have been busy gearing up for our annual spring sale. The profits from the sale are strictly for the Art Club members. The funds contribute to the cost of supplies, snacks, and other fun activities in and outside the art room. Members will be selling our paintings, drawings, ceramics, and much more!
The sale will run May 2nd – May 6th, during lunchtime and after school in the DHS Student Affairs Lobby. We will be sharing and selling art until all items are gone. The benefits of being an active member of the DHS Art Club are limitless. Natalia Cardoso (Senior) stated, “Since joining the DHS Art Club, it has not only helped me explore different art materials but has allowed me to become more social, make friendships, and use art as a form of therapy during bad times.”
Please, help support the DHS Art Club and future artists in our community.
