February was full of fun for the Berg Bulldogs students and staff! The month began with the Berg Student Council teaming with the Best Friends Mentoring Program for a change drive in conjunction with Giving Hearts Day. The Berg students and staff were able to collect $669.19 to support the Best Friends Mentoring Program. Staff contributed $225, and students added $444.19 to the total! The top three classroom contributors were Ms. Dawson’s 3rd graders, Mrs. Jepson’s 2nd graders, and Mrs. Schulte’s 4th graders. The top three donating classes enjoyed donuts!

Berg celebrated the 100th Day of School on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021. Although not all students and staff have been together everyday face to face for the full 100 days, we are grateful that students have learned through a variety of methods. Congratulations to all students and staff for adjusting to the challenges faced during the pandemic and remembering that educating children is our priority. The 100th Day of School was celebrated at Berg by inviting students and staff to dress as if they were 100 years old. This activity aimed to celebrate and honor the accomplishments of those who reach 100 years of age as well as all who have completed 100 days of school.

On Friday, February 12th, 2021, Berg held its 2nd Annual Manner's Meal. Although we could not invite parents and outside guests as we did last year, an enjoyable time was had by all. The menu consisted of chicken alfredo, garlic bread, vegetables, mixed fruit and a special Valentine cookie served by Principal Lecoe and DPS Nutritionist Nancy Wahl. A comment shared by one of the students during the meal was, “This is the best day ever!” Students and staff were invited to dress their best. They enjoyed the special meal in the cafeteria with tables containing centerpieces consisting of fresh flowers, dimmed lights and special music.

February 17th was Random Acts of Kindness Day. Ms. Brown’s class participated in this wonderful day by sharing kindness quotes with staff and placing kind messages on students’ lockers. Thank you for spreading kindness!

A Wellness Committee has been formed throughout the district. Berg Elementary’s Wellness committee has been busy developing wellness activities. February’s activity consisted of a delicious salad potluck enjoyed by staff. As a part of Wellness Wednesday, three staff, Annie Michels, Darcy Schulte, and Maralee Sickler were winners of a special treat for prioritizing wellness. All staff are encouraged to remember to take time for their health, especially during the pandemic, to be the best they can be for themselves and others!
