Over the summer, the fourth-grade teachers at Jefferson came across a new celebration, The Fourth Day of Fourth Grade. It was a surprise to students when they walked in on August 29, and there was a big “4” balloon and streamers. The day was spent doing various activities that involved “four.”

The celebration began during the morning meeting doing a paper bag project, where students brought in four things that were important to them. This allowed the students to get to know their classmates better. It continued with students doing a workout consisting of four minutes of jumping jacks, forty kicks, four minutes of twirls, forty-four claps, forty-four squats, and four minutes of silly faces. Students were worn out but enjoyed it!

Back in the classroom, students worked with partners to create a maze using equations equaling four and creating words out of “fourth grade.” Teachers are looking forward to making this a tradition for years to come.
