We, as sixth graders, decided that we wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Evergreen residents. We had a manners luncheon with them where we dressed up and met the people while we had lunch with them.

We speak for all sixth graders that it was so much fun. The tables were decorated beautifully with leaves, candles, and fall decorations. We listened with interest as they told their fun and different stories. As we sat down with our food, the smell was so welcoming.

We had a lot of fun playing bingo and learned about the Evergreen residents' lives which inspired us to be better people and friends. We hope to see them again soon.

Tessa Johnson, Executive Director of CountryHouse and Evergreen shared, "Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts, and even more importantly--- ALLOWING us to spend time with the DMS family. Mrs. Mavity has always been such an incredible champion in pairing the students with our senior population. As the Executive Director of both Evergreen and CountryHouse, it is a huge passion of mine to bring children and life into our world in senior living.

Our residents loved having students come to visit us and absolutely loved coming “back to school”. I was so impressed and humbled by the kindness and respect that Dickinson Middle School showed to our seniors for this event. They had wonderful conversations, shared stories, and made lasting memories. My son is a 7th grader at DMS, and he has “grown up” in Senior living, and this was a wonderful event for him too!

We had a handful of residents who were able to share the thanksgiving meal with students. We hope that we started some traditions with the students, especially those who don’t have these traditions at home or grandparents to share the holidays with. We are so excited to come back a few times in December for Christmas Cookies and more BINGO!"
