Work-Based Learning Program
What is work-based learning?
The work-based learning (WBL) program gives students the unique opportunity to jump into the ‘world of work’ with companies and organizations within the community. DHS students involved in the work-based learning program will have the chance to extend the classroom into a workplace setting, combining classroom activities with actual work experience.
Work-based learning experiences provide students a space to strengthen their ‘career-ready’ skills such as communication, enthusiasm and attitude, teamwork, networking, problem-solving and critical thinking, and professionalism. Students will learn about job application processes, resume construction, interview tips, and more.
Logistical information:
- Students must apply to be admitted into the program
- Placement must be during the 8:15 am – 3:35 pm school hours
- Students will be enrolled in the ‘work-based learning’ class at DHS but will attend their placement during that period
- 1 credit will be awarded if a student is attending their WBL placement every school day
- 0.5 credits will be awarded if a student is attending their WBL placement every other day (only A or only B days)
