Hello! I am Miss Sanford, the school counselor at Heart River. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Dickinson State University (2013) and my Master of Science in Education, specializing in Counseling, from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD (2015). Along with my major in psychology, I also earned TR Distinction as part of the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program. I have served in a leadership capacity at the local and state level in the South Dakota Counseling Association and in the Honors program at NSU. In my free time, I love to read, ride horses, and take my beautiful beagle for walks.

Here at Heart River, I am available to help all students, parents, and staff with a variety of issues. Guidance classes are every other week using the Second Step curriculum and supplemental materials to cover the core areas: Social, Emotional, Career, and Academic. Small groups will begin after the first quarter and will cover many different topics; a list of these will be posted soon! I also see individual students by request. These requests can come from parents, teachers, or the students themselves. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me.
