DMS is Glowing with Fun!

Let's Glow sign in Melinda Fridrich's class

Dickinson Middle School is glowing with fun!

Take a look at how math and literacy classrooms use fun techniques to keep our students engaged.

Melinda Fridrich, Title I Schoolwide grade 6 and 7 math teacher, set up stations with review problems of Priority Standards already taught. Students took a go at the problems and, after a bit of practice, celebrated by playing a game at the station. Everything is glowing in the dark with the black lights. After visiting this classroom at DMS, who would not "Glow Crazy" for math.

The 6th Grade Literacy classes worked diligently through writing powerful personal narratives. Their learning focused on writing captivating leads and meaningful conclusions, strong sentences full of details, and dialogue that brought their stories to life. Amy Sherer, ELA/Social Studies instructor, celebrated the students success with a "Glow Party." Students highlighted the parts of their narratives that they were proud of and then posted them around the room for a gallery walk. Students read their classmates' narratives and wrote "glowing" compliments recognizing all the successful writing!

It is an exciting and engaging way to get kids to not only review skills but celebrate their learning as well. Great job, DMS!
