Because the Board desires to hear the viewpoints of citizens throughout the District, it has scheduled a time period for public participation. Any person wishing to address the Board must make a written request prior to the meeting. A public participation form is available in the Board room or from the Central Administration Office superintendent's secretary. Each individual is limited to four (4) minutes with not more than thirty (30) minutes total time allocated to comments from those attending. Speakers may offer comments relating to school operations and programs but the Board will not hear personal complaints against any person connected with the school system. Speakers must address topics that are on the agenda. If a citizen would like a topic added to the school board agenda they must meet in advance with the Superintendent. The Board reserves the right to eliminate or restrict the time allowed for public participation. Any group addressing a common concern may be requested to designate a spokesperson.
An important feature of public schools in America is that control over the education of your children has been kept close to the people. Because the school board believes in this tradition, your participation is welcomed and you are encouraged to express your views on matters affecting your schools and students. |
