jan-fields-photo-for-obitJan was a passionate educator for 38 years.  Some of the things that she did include:  her entire class dressed in a theme for Halloween (skunks, dalmations & more), sleepovers in the gym with magic shows, food & games, taking her class out for dinner at a restaurant to teach them manners, bringing the girls to her house on prom night, dressing up in Jennifer’s old prom dresses and then going to the Dickinson High School prom.  She held a pizza party for her second graders when they graduated from high school at Roosevelt.  They played in the gym, shared stories, etc.  She was known by many in the community for her work with the Dickinson Public Schools Foundation at our alumni open houses, mystery dinner theater, grant presentations & so much more.  Jan volunteered at the hospital and gave tours for their CHOPS program.  She helped pass out waters during the tornado on the southside.  Jan had a Red Hat Club at Evergreen, a Red Tie Club at Evergreen and she volunteered at Country House and served on the St. Luke’s Foundation Board.  She was a member of PEO and the Power of 100 Woman’s group plus so much more…….  Sometimes you could find her dressed up like an Easter Bunny in her Hallmark bunny costume.  Many of her former students would invite her to their weddings (she gave them Mrs. Fields cookies), they called her to watch them play softball when they were in town.  She stayed connected with many of the students and their parents.

Jan made the world a better place.  We want to honor her memory and celebrate her life.  She made the world a better place.  She will be deeply missed.
