The "Work-At-Your-Own-Pace"
Learning Environment

      The Dickinson Adult Learning Center offers

"Work-At-Your-Own-Pace" individualized instruction in these academic areas for all levels of need.  Improve your skills for personal satisfaction, to increase your employment opportunities, to obtain        your GED or to be ready for a post-high school program, such as vocational school or college.

Reading:  Certified teachers and tutors work with students at any level.  Science and social studies are included in reading.

Math:  Individual instruction with certified teachers for math from beginning levels through algebra and geometry.

Writing:  Individual and small group instruction on correct sentence and paragraph formation by certified teachers beginning at the student's assessed level.        

Keyboarding:  Learn to maneuver around the keyboard.  Increasing speed and improving accuracy are additional purposes of this course.

Basic Computer:  Begin with Microsoft 2007 Word Word Processing.

Additional Computer Classes:  Move on to Excel, Access or PowerPoint to expand your computer skills and employability.

GED Preparation:  GED preparation material is used to take you from your current level to the level necessary for GED success.  Small group or individual sessions in all subjects provide opportunities to learn from others and enhance learning.  Predictive GED tests are given to determine readiness for final testing.   A graduation ceremony is held once a year with cap and gown, certificate, invitations and a reception.  While working here at the Center toward your GED, you may take one computer class at no cost.

ESL (English as a Second Language):  Students will find instruction in English-speaking, reading, and writing.  Citizenship instruction is available. Naturalized citizens are recognized at our annual ceremony.

Job and Career Exploration:  Use your interests and current skills to locate a potential job or career.  Use the Internet, newspapers and other tools to find your place in the work world.  Help with applications, interviews, a resume' and a cover letter is also available.

Counselor:  A counselor is available by referral.

College Preparedness:  With the help of staff, students can bring their skills up to college entrance levels, instead of paying for remedial college classes where credits don't apply towards graduation.

Test Proctoring : Call to set up an appointment to get your test proctored.

The DALC has a satellite program in Beulah, ND.
